Here is the preview window for a little article posted by a 7-year old:

Since the article is a bit long the image was torn short. However it did have pragraphs and headers, etc. At the very bottom of the window there is a 'Back' button. Click on it, or click on the 'back' link on top; it should put you back into the 'New Posting' window.

Similar to posts for topics, you can create new topics under a discussion 'forum'. For that, you need to go to a forum and use 'NewTopic' button at the bottom. It should be straightforward; we will not depict it here.

There is no magic to the notion of 'topics'; their workings is identical to 'posts'. The only difference is the hierarchy: topics live under a forum, posts live under a topic.
